Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, appealed to the General Prosecutor of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka concerning the actions of the Ministry of Science and Education, Youth and Sports of Ukraine regarding the teaching personnel of the higher education establishments. The appeal concerns the situation with the appointment of Donetsk National University rector.
In his appeal, M. Tomenko emphasised that according to the mass media, namely online version of "Vidkrytyi Urok: Rozrobky, Tekhnolohii, Dosvid" (Open Lesson: Research, Technologies and Experience) journal, Evhen Sulyma, Deputy Minister, together with Petro Ehorov, appointed by the Ministry to the office of acting rector of Donetsk National University, exerted pressure on the deans and the vice-rectors of University to prevent appointment of Yurii Lysenko to the office of rector. After Yurii Lysenko was finally appointed to the office mentioned, the law enforcement agencies and the acting rector made a raid on him and other personnel of the education establishment.
M. Tomenko stressed that it was not the first incident of such a character. He reminded that mass media there had already published the information that Sulyma E.M. blackmailed the rectors of higher education establishments to repair the premises of the Ministry. Former rectors of Vinnytsia National Technical University Borys Mokin and Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design Oleh Volkov proved this fact.
In his appeal, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine requested the General Prosecutor to take action to respond to the situation, support the rights of the teaching board, and suspend illegal actions of the Ministry.
